Can you be whelmed?

That sounds so funny to me. :) I say it, because yesterday Ben and I stopped by the store that caters to people with allergies when we were in the city yesterday. I wanted to see what they had, you know, just as a resource, should we need it.

They were very helpful. Too helpful in fact. I shouldn't have gone in there. My personality is to research and find resources so that I am ready for anything. (My friends will tell you...take one look at our diaper bag, and you know we are ready for anything!) Well, it was too much, and I wasn't prepared for that.

At first Ben and Nehemiah were next door ordering a pizza. I walked around in a bit of a daze. Looking at the books and cookbooks, the products, the free literature, and the trying to be helpful clerk. Then I had the urge to cry or throw up or something.

I hadn't given myself the space or time to consider what this could mean for Nehemiah and our family.

Did you know that there is wheat in pretty much all play dough type products aside from Crayola modeling clay? Or that it is in those sweet little Elmer's finger paints? Or candy sprinkles? Salad dressings? Gravy? Soup base? Along with just about everything else you already thought of...oh, pudding too. Uugh!

Yeah. I was shaking when I came out. My precious son. God's gift to us; which is what I need to remember--he is God's, and God is his. The Lord has always been faithful to equip those he has called. I just don't feel like being called to this!

I won't be heading back to the store again until I know for sure what is going on.

Keep praying...thanks!

"I think you can in Europe?"

Seriously though, you are a super momma! God won't call you to anything that you can't handle with His help.

I think it's a good idea to stay away from that store til you know with more certainty what's going on. And if you ever want someone to come with you next time, just give me a call!

*hugs*

Sweetie,
You're right not to get ahead of yourself. The good news is that there are people who are equipped to help you, there are people who've been through what you're going through. If it turns out that he has these allergies, you'll have options. And if you need options, I have a good friend with Celiac's disease and a friend who has a two-year old who's allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, nuts, legumes, and all manner of whatnot that I'd be happy to put you in touch with. Her's is a delightful, happy little boy--- not as cute as yours of course, but they live a very happy life. You're not going to have to walk this road alone. If it comes to that, you'll have to make some adjustments, but you'll work it out, and you'll have all the love and support you could possibly want. And prayers aplenty, too.

^I agree.

I had a whole big comment typed out and then my internet lost the connection... ugh!

The basics of it were this: You are a wonderful mother- if he DOES have allergies, you will find a creative way of handling it. You are a smart girl and you all will figure out how to adjust your lives and make this all work. You are capable of handling whatever is put on your plate. And your love for your son will help get you through those frustrating times.

All that being said, no worries until you find out. That could've been a fluke. Crazier things have happened.

Call me if you need me. Love you!

Yeah, I'm good at getting ahead of myself as well.

Also, I hope I don't offend anyone, but my experience with the "health food-organic-no sugar/salt/meat/fat/wheat/artificial sweetener/artificial color/anything that you didn't grow with your own two hands" crowd can be pretty overwhelming to be around. They are extremely um...sure of themselves...and also extremely sure that you should believe and adhere to with religious devotion every word that comes out of their mouths.

Hang in there; I'm praying for you guys!
